CJ Nelson’s Description
The Sprout is the result of CJ Nelson’s decades-long pursuit of the ultimate performance noserider. Inspired by two classic longboards from his father’s collection, the Weber Performer and Nuuhiwa Noserider, CJ spent years refining his signature model with some of the world’s most respected shapers.
In 2007, filmmaker Thomas Campbell invited CJ to surf the legendary points of Southern Baja for his film Sprout. Working with shaper Dane Purlee, CJ developed a distinctive pink noserider that showcased his progressive approach and helped establish his reputation for pushing the limits of traditional longboarding.
Years later, CJ began exploring the radical longboard styles of the late 1960s, broadening his surfing. But requests for his original noserider kept coming. In 2015, CJ teamed up with longtime friend Ryan Engle to recreate the board, using an original model and detailed measurements to bring its classic design back to life.
After testing the refined shape throughout Southern California and returning to Baja in 2016, CJ rediscovered the performance and feel that made the original so special.
The Sprout brings that iconic design back, combining timeless noseriding tradition with the performance CJ spent years perfecting.
