More Information
The Channel Islands Semi Pro (and its evolved variant, the Semi Pro 12) is a high-performance shortboard and step-up design originally shaped by Kelly Slater.
- Ideal Waves: Chest-high to double-overhead-plus (knee to double+ height), working well in pointbreaks, reefs, and powerful beachbreaks. It handles clean, hollow, and punchy surf best.
- Weak/Small Surf: Unsuited for sloppy, choppy, or dead-small groveling days—though the SP12 adds enough front volume to handle less-than-ideal days better than the original.
- Surfing Approach: Built for tight, critical pocket turns, vertical snaps, and sharp rail-to-rail transitions. It rewards a back-foot to neutral weight distribution rather than heavy front-foot hopping.
