More Information

The Channel Islands (CI) Mikey’s Shorty (designed by Britt Merrick and Mikey February) is a high-performance shortboard that bridges the gap between CI’s user-friendly Happy Family line and their sharper Pro Family line.

Key Design Features
  • Staged Rocker: Unlike continuous curve rockers, it features entry curve, a flatter mid-section for speed generation through flat spots, and back-foot flip near the fins.
  • Outline & Rails: A pulled-in nose, a subtle hip (Merrick bump) near the fins to tighten the turning radius, and foiled, lower rails for a sensitive, connected feel.
  • Concave: Single-to-double concave that adds lift, speed, and smooth rail-to-rail transitions.
  • Tail Options: Available in squash or round pin tail configurations.

Performance & Ride Summary
  • Speed & Flow: Testers note that it excels at generating and maintaining speed through lumpy or flat sections better than a pure pro-level board like the CI Pro.
  • Wave Range: Best suited for chest-high to overhead surf (roughly 2 to 6 feet), shining particularly well on point breaks and long, drawn-out lefts.
  • Fin Sensitivity: Reviewers found that the board feels dynamic depending on fin choice—upright or pivot templates (like AM or P6 templates) generally unlock tighter, freer turns compared to overly stiff or large fiberglass templates.
  • Build & Paddle: Offers good paddle assistance due to retained volume under the chest, and is available in standard PU or durable EcoCarbon Tech (ECT) options.
