Please describe below what it is you are wanting more of out of your current fin/board experience (example - more drive, tighter turns, more release....etc) or any other questions you might have about fins or fin systems. Thank You.

Hi fin guru, I'm riding the board mostly in beachbreaks of the baltic and the north sea, so it's mostly 2-3 ft, 4 - 7 sec period, howling onshore mush. I feel the fins work great when it gets bigger and the waves get more of a fat shoulder for longer arc carves. Right now I'm looking for something fore small weak waves that gives me the most speed possible an a quick pivot to hit those one turn close outs. I thought about getting a neo glass reactor. What are your thoughts on it? Thank you so much for your help! All the best, Stefan

Fin Guru Response:

Stefan how are you! What you are saying makes perfect sense! There is a Fin I like a lot and it is the Mayhem template. But the THUG is kind of a lower rocker board so.... an even tighter arc template would be the Hayden. The Hayden has a long running base for drive but is even more upright then the Mayhem. Upon checking them out, the Hayden has a longer running base than the Mayhem which equals drive!

Now the Reactor would be a great fin as well. The Reactor has a smaller trailer fin so that will increase pivot. We have had good feedback with putting the Hayden template and the Reactors in lower rocker boards. So i would say it is between those two templates. The base of the Reactor large is 4.45 and base of Hayden large is 4.60. The rake is almost identical one at 31.8(Hayden) and other at 31.9(Reactor) - The area is the same as well - So either one would be a big contrast to the AM medium -  For your weight I would go with the medium size for either of these templates. So the Hayden Med. and the Reactor Med. are the 2 templates i would take a hard look at. I reckon you would be good with either one of those.

let me know - thanks!!!

All the Best,

Fin Guru

STEFAN RESPONSE:

Thanks so much for your help. Seeing the numbers really helped a lot. I could get some medium neo glass reactors of a friend and was able to take them for a spin yesterday. Waves were super small an weak but from what I can tell after just one session fins felt great. Turns felt kinda effortless. Before I had to drive quite hard through turns to fit them into the shitty waves over here. Having a fin with more flex felt good too. I think I'm gonna stay on the reactors for now. Maybe I'll try the hayden fins too at some point. Even thought about putting the large side fins in and swapping the center for a medium. For now I keep the reactors in for a while.

Thanks for your help and the super quick reply. Keep up the good work!

All the best from Germany
