More Information

This is one of our in-house shapes!

The Fiend-X was developed while working with Jake Schonover. He had been riding the Fiend and loving it, but asked for some modifications so that it was a little bit more “poppy” for airs and had a touch more “shortboard” performance in it. First we deepened the concave on the back half of the board and ran the double concave through the fins, and added a touch more rocker. This adds more curve throughout, gives more lift in the tail area, and puts the vee just behind the back fin. We got rid of the beak, added an inch in length, narrowed it a touch and moved the wide point back a little behind center (common in shortboard outlines). This makes it surf shorter by reducing the length of the outline curve in the back half. The nose narrowed just a hair and pulled in the swallowtail area just a little bit for tighter pivot and bite, all the while keeping the Fiends outline overall including the wing swallow. The fin set up is still the same twin plus stabilizer.

Overall you end up with a higher performance twin plus stabilizer board. So, if you surf the points and want a little bit more of a carvy feel, go with the Fiend. But, if you want something for airs, surf beach breaks more often, or want a little bit more of shortboard performance in an alternative hybrid twin plus stabilizer model then I would do the Fiend-X.

This model should be ridden 2 to 3 inches shorter than your everyday shortboard. If you have a Fiend already, you would want to go 1” up in length.
