Hyfi Construction: Lighter, Stronger, Faster
JS’s Hyfi (Hybrid Fiber) is a stringer-less epoxy construction featuring layered materials, carbon strips on both the top and bottom, and a diamond-pattern fiber weave along the rails and underside. It’s designed to be lighter, stronger, and faster than traditional PU boards.
Lighter
Hyfi boards are about 20% lighter than PU models. After riding seven of them, I can confirm they feel significantly more responsive. The reduced weight makes a big difference in maneuverability—especially noticeable for advanced surfers.
Stronger
JS claims Hyfis are more durable, and in my experience, that holds up. I’ve ridden them through heavy surf, into sand, and even had some wash up on rocks—minimal damage. Out of seven, I’ve only creased one, and that was rider error.
Faster
Hyfis feel livelier than PU boards. They’re slightly more buoyant, so JS trims down the foam to avoid a corky feel. The result? A board that paddles well, feels springy underfoot, and turns with more snap. My Hyfi Monsta Box easily outperformed the PU version.
