Surfboard Guide: What Should You Ride?
Beginner Example
Tim is 6’2”, 195 lbs and heading to San Onofre on a mellow 2–3 ft day. He is athletic and drawn to performance boards, but he has never surfed before.
We recommend a 9’0” soft top. It offers maximum stability, paddle power and glide, making it the best choice for beginners and smaller waves.
Intermediate Example
Terri is 5’4”, 125 lbs and surfing San Clemente Pier in clean 2–3 ft surf. She is comfortable getting to her feet and prefers the feel of a longer board.
We recommend a 7’2” Torq Fish. It provides a great balance of stability and maneuverability, making it a versatile option for a variety of conditions.
Grom / Kids Example
Max is 7 years old and brand new to surfing. His family is heading to Doheny, where the waves are smaller, and his dad will be helping him into waves.
We recommend a 7’0” soft top. It is stable, easy to handle and perfect for smaller surfers learning in gentle conditions.
