Thrusters
Tri fin, also known as a Thruster, are pretty much what you see on most surfboards these days and are definitely the standard on High Performance Surfboards. They are known for “clicking” into the next gear of speed and drive when pumping. They are also known for “thrusting” out of turns with speed and control. This comes from the center fin “leveraging” the pivot around the front fins and this creates a “thrust”. This amazing set up has been credited to surfer and shaper Simon Anderson from Australia. He placed a third center, or tailing, fin on an existing twin fin. And BAM!... Thruster was born. He went on to prove its validity by winning the Bells and Pipe Masters contest on his Thrusters in 1981. Slowly but surely the Thruster replaced the Twin Fin and the rest is History.
