Hi,
I too want to make sure exactly what I am doing is right. I have a friend doing the graphics and want this process done to my new board. If my new board lets just say is 22 inches wide. Do I want to make the graphic 18 inches or do I want it to be wider then the 22 inches and just trim it off. I am just starting and I want the graphic 18 x 36 inches. Is the 18 to narrow? do I want to go 24 inches??? What do you suggest? I want to make sure I don't screw up and I am just starting so I have time.
Thank you very much,
Desi

Hi there i'm interested in the artwork you provide.. How do you apply the graphics using the dye sublimation method? I believe using dye sublimation uses a heat process wont this ruin my surfboard?

Joe,

You generally wouldn't re-glass a board just to change the graphics. It would add a lot of weight.

For a board that is already finished, you would either posca pen or spray paint a new design over the existing one. Then seal it with a clear acrylic.

For a new board, we either airbrush or laminate a design onto the foam and then it is either sand or glossed over with resin and cloth over the design. Protects the artwork and makes the colors pop.

hey guys,
so i just need some clarification w your graphics. can you actually laminate a new color scheme on a board that's already finished, glassed, sanded , and w preexisting laminates? if yes, does that mean you have to reglass over the new laminate to keep it intact?

Hey Thomas,

We would be able to print out your design on cloth and then laminate the art directly onto the foam and be sealed into the lamination.

There are a couple of things you would have to do to get the best results. First you would need to use a high-resolution, mega-pixel camera to capture the image with proper lighting. Second, given the process of surfboard contruction, you would need for your art to bleed outside of the outline of your surfboard. Meaning your design is laminated onto the foam and then the excess is trimmed off to the silhouette of your surfboard. If your design is already trimmed, it is next to impossible to laminate it onto a shaped blank and have it come out looking perfect.

So, one option to do in your case, would for us to resize your artwork slightly bigger (around 2″ should be fine) than what your actual board size and then you would have to live with the trimmed off excess of your art.

Hope that helps.
