The surfboard made for snowboarding

Rob Machado: is it a surfboard or a snowboard?

Meet the "Fish Out of Water" snow surfboard or surf snowboard. Yes, a joint-venture between Signal Snowboards, Surf Prescriptions and Future Fins resulted in a "snurfboard" that can be used in the ocean waves and in the snowy mountain hills.

First, the team of shapers had to build a snowboard inside the surfboard. In the heart of the surfboard, there were wooden snowboard materials that would help resist all shocks.

The board then moves to the Future Fins factory where fin boxes are added to this unique gear. Afterwards, the board goes back to the fiberglass process, before the final snowboard base completes the show.

"It's time to surf and we are not surfers, so we reach out to some friends and we get the ultimate person to ride the surfboard. Rob Machado", explains Dave Lee, founder of Signal Snowboards.

Rob fell in love with the "surf n' snowboard". "I'm excited. I love the tail, already. It'll work, for sure", says Machado in the moment he takes a first look at it.

Rihanna goes surfing in Hawaii

Rihanna: her own way of surfing

Rihanna has gone surfing in Hawaii. Well, at least, she tried. The Barbadian recording artist decided to hit the warm waters of the Pacific islands to show off her great figure and new black G-string bikini.

The singer picked a big stand-up paddle board, but was not seen riding 20-foot waves. She decided to tan on the top of the big surfboard, while the paparazzi photographed her.

Rihanna, the newest surfing celebrity, kept floating along in the ocean and applied sun cream to protect her from the sun rays. She didn't bring her umbrella, though.

Rihanna is still a long way from other Hollywood and entertainment stars. While Lady Gaga, Chris Martin and Lindsay Lohan have already caught real waves, Rihanna should get professional surfing instructor.

Rihanna's revealing bikini is, at least, a sign that she is in shape and might have been doing regular exercise, which is always positive. The singer's Hawaiian holidays may open the door to the incredible wave riding experience.

Volcom Pipe Pro: first training stage of the year

The 2012 Volcom Pipe Pro is back in town. The ASP 5-Star World Qualifying Series (WQS) event will be surfed between January 23rd and February 4th. The first serious points for the world rankings are at stake.

The most dangerous waves on the planet will welcome 112 brave surfers. In the end, there's also a $130,000 USD prize money to distribute by the best wave riders.

The Volcom Pipe Pro is an extra special event for the local Hawaiian competitors. It is the only chance for non-World Tour surfers to gain entry into the prestigious Pipe Masters.

The top eight Hawaiian competitors in the Volcom Pipe Pro will be rewarded wildcard entries into the 2012 event, which is part of the Triple Crown series that wraps up the year.

Last year, the 2011 Volcom Pipe Pro was the most viewed WQS webcast of all time - held in three consecutive days of pumping Pipeline surf - with local Hawaiian, 18-year-old John Florence taking the top spot against a field of surfers almost twice his age.

Wavegarden UK is under fire in Bristol

Wavegarden: the Bristol view

The first public official artificial wave park in the world is being attacked by environmentalists, authorities and residents of the city of Bristol.

Wavegarden UK, which has been announced for the British coastal city for spring 2013, is being accused of promoting large commercial food or drink companies in the surf pool projected for the Avon Gorge area.

The "Friends of Avon Gorge" believe the site is not suitable for a commercial venture and that the artificial surfing installment will threaten the local wildlife.

The Wavegarden Bristol is an idea of Nick Hounsfield and Tobin Coles, supported by Chris Hines. The entrepreneurs defend the surf park and the absolute respect for Nature.

Surf police keeps etiquette in the Gold Coast

Surf crowd: there are waves for everyone | Photo: Surf Wonderland

Surfing policemen will be patrolling the surf spots of Duranbah and Snapper Rocks, in Australia, in an attempt to control and reduce surf rage incidents that have been spreading in the Gold Coast.

Dropping in is considered the main problem in Australia's most important and crowded surf breaks. Surf etiquette is one of the first things a surfer should follow through his entire surf life.

Respect in the line-up is the first step to a global stoke and mounted police will try to ensure every respect each other and gets respected in return. Respecting the local surfing community and the priorities in a wave peak are fundamental in popular spots, but there are still many riders who seem to forget it.

Beginners in surfing and bad mooded surfers should know that, one day, they will eventually suffer from lack of respect, out in the water. The Gold Coast surfing community is divided about the police patrol.
