Firing surf in the six-to-eight foot (3 metre) range at the infamous Mexican Pipeline decided the Quarterfinalists at the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 4-Star Quiksilver Pro Puerto Escondido.
With only 16 surfers remaining in the draw, the Quiksilver Pro Puerto Escondido’s iconic location of Playa Zicatela has not only included some of the globe’s hungriest up-and-coming competitive ASP competitors, but also some of the most talented big-wave riders.

Billabong announces the eighth edition of the most expected big wave event of the region, the "Billabong Pico Alto Invitational 2010 ". This year, the waiting period for this classic event will run from July 15th to August 31st.
Since last year the Billabong Pico Alto event forms part of the Big Wave World Tour (BWWT), being the second one of this important circuit. The BWWT is organized by Gary Linden, renowned shaper and big wave surfer.

Big wave surfer Anthony Ruffo was arrested at his house in possession of more than an ounce of near-pure methamphetamine.
Ruffo had already had problems with drugs in 2004. At that time, he pleaded guilty to felony meth possession. Earlier, in 1998, Anthony Ruffo was charged with possessing of marijuana for sale and attended anti-drug programs.
The 46-year-old surfer from Santa Cruz appears in the documentary "The Westsiders", a film about the surfing gang of Steamer Lane.
Before the police entered Ruffo's house, a young woman tried to flush methamphetamine down the toilet.

Two of Britain’s most successful surfers are coming to Swansea to share their surfing knowledge with lucky Welsh surfers.
Russell Winter, the first ever European surfer to make it into the top 44 surfers in the world, and Ben Skinner, currently ranked 5th in the world longboard rankings will be spending 2 days coaching on the Gower peninsula.

"Surfwise", the documentary surf film created by director Doug Pray and featuring Lightning Bolt president Jonathan Paskowitz of the infamous Paskowitz surf clan, recently won Best Film at the International Surf Film Festival d’Anglet and Best Film at the Quiksilver Surfestival that recently took place in Chile.
“It’s an honor for “Surfwise” to win the title “Best Film” alongside so many amazing surf films also recognized at this festival, featuring top surfers such as Jordy Smith, and highly publicized flicks such as “Modern Collective,” says Lightning Bolt, USA president, Jonathan Paskowitz.

Tarp surfing is the new action sports trend born between the California surfers and skateboarders. It all started in the mid-90s, but the "technology" has evolved in the last years.
The easiest way to score a barrel is by tarp surfing. You just need a skateboard, some IKEA bags and a couple of friends.
Of course, some of your friends are more creative than others. They even paddle for the each wave... er... tarp.
Tarp surfing is a great alternative to the small summer waves.

Cloudbreak, Tavarua and Restaurants, the best surf spots in Fiji, are going to have their access liberalized to any surfing tourist.
"Free access and use of all surfing areas in Fiji to all tourists and Fijians provides a wonderful opportunity to all Fijians, including the i-taukei landowners in the proximity of this surfing areas to profit directly and indirectly by way of engaging in businesses themselves as apposed to relying on handouts from hotel operators in charging premium rates for their clients," said Mr.Sayed-Khaiyum, the Attorney General.
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum reiterated that the surfing industry is a global US $10 billion business and the opening up of surfing in Fiji will attract an additional 20,000 tourists to Fiji every year in time to come.

Opening night of the annual Hawaii Ocean Film Festival will be a tribute to both the people of the Gulf Coast and ocean volunteers in Hawaii. Generally, the festival receives independent films about marine resources, ocean recreation and our cultural connections to the sea from e...xotic, isolated, or coastal and island nations.
In the 10+ years the event has been in existance, they have never received a short film from the Gulf of Mexico or the Southern U.S. But this year, around Valentines Day, filmmaker Robbie Fisher, from Mississippi submitted the short documentary "Gulf Islands," about the The Gulf Islands National Seashore Park, the barrier islands which stretch 160 miles from Cat Island Mississippi to Okaloosa Florida.

The 2010 Makka Pro came to a magnificent close on Sunday July 19 2010 at the Makka Surfing Beach at Southaven, Yallahs Saint Thomas. Despite pro surfing entrants from Barbados, Trinidad, Philippines, Australia and the USA, Jamaica came away with the purse in the open Men’s division for the first time in the history of the 4 year old event when Icah Wilmot walked away with the US$1000.00 on offer to the winner of the open division.
It didn’t stop there either. Shane Simmonds took second ahead of third and fourth place finishers Travis Ajay of the USA and Che Lovelace of Trinidad. In the junior division Jamaica had a clean sweep with Akeem Taylor, Shama Beckford, Garren Pryce and Ivah Wilmot taking first to fourth place respectively showing that Jamaica has a bright future in regional professional surfing.
